Norsepower is hosting an informal panel discussion to help progress industry thinking around decarbonisation, particularly the use of wind propulsion and it’s quantifiable benefits to achieve these goals.
The IMO’s incoming EEXI and CII regulations are one part of the challenge, as shipowners focus on improving their fleets’ performance to meet EEXI compliance requirements. The EU’s ‘Fit for 55’ initiative will also have a major impact on vessels operating in, or transiting within the region.
However, commercially-driven forces are operating at an even faster pace. For example, the Poseidon Principles and the Sea Cargo Charter reflect the growing impetus of embedding ESG standards at the heart of finance and charterer decision-making. With all of these factors at large, planning to make investments to help reduce emissions and fuel costs is now a not an option, but a necessity.
Clean technologies will be integral to shipping’s future and the role of wind power is gradually being seen as shipping’s ‘no brainer’.
